Monday May 13, 2002 MarketComm Helping Greenville County, S.C., Promote RecyclingCHARLOTTE, N.C., May 13, 2002 -- Posters are going up in Greenville County, S.C., offices that encourage office paper recycling by promoting a new game called "Paperball.""You just wad up your trash and toss in recycling bins," said MarketComm President Stern Dixon, who created the paperball concept to kickstart a new office paper recycling effort among county employees. "You can~t rely on environmental consciousness alone to get people to recycle," Dixon says. "You~ve got to make it fun and easy. Paperball provides a handle for making recylcing fun." Paperball posters were placed over large blue trash receptacles throughout county offices, and smaller crack-n-peel stickers were placed on recycling bins distributed to each employee. "Paperball provides dozens of promotional opportunities -- from one-on-one tournaments between county employees and local basketball stars, to three-on-three contests between county departments," Dixon says. "If Greenville County wants to reduce the flow into the waste steam, employees gotta get game!" The paperball promotion was produced for Carolina Public Relations, a Charlotte-based agency that provides ongoing support to Greenville County~s Solid Waste Services Divison..
