Recruiting Project for Boy Scouts Scores Big

CHARLOTTE, N.C., Sept. 20, 2006 -- A pro bono project by MarketComm to boost recruiting of Scouts in Mecklenburg County has scored big.

MarketComm helped develop this fall's recruiting strategy for the Mecklenburg County Council of the Boy Scouts of American, and developed a marketing tabloid that ran in the Charlotte Observer and a brochure distributed to all eligible boys and girls in the county.

The effort helped the Council recruit more Scouters during its traditional back-to-school recruiting period than it had in the past several years overcoming a decline in Cub-aged boy recruiting the year before.

The marketing pieces both showcased famous Scouters from throughout history. The cover of the tab and brochure listed dozens of names of famous people who had been scouts as youth and left a large blank line with the words: Your Son's Name Here printed underneath. The inside copy focused on how Scouts provides a unique program to help youth learn leadership skills and have fun while doing it.

Dixon serves on the executive board of the Mecklenburg County Council and has been a member of the council's marketing, endowment, membership and advanced gifts committees.
